Crafters & Makers Lab

Objective

Research Costa Rica's native amphibian species and bring their characteristics to life through physical 3D models, printed blank and then painted and displayed.

Classroom Project Structure

Science Phase (Biology)

Research into local biodiversity, habitats and the physical characteristics of local frogs.

Technology Phase

Introduction to the 3D printing (FDM) workflow. Guided demonstrations and observation of layering, supports and filament.

Art Phase

Applying color theory (color wheel) and acrylic painting techniques and finishes (lacquer/sealant) to the PLA model.

Educational Impact

Builds a sense of accomplishment, an emotional connection with the environment, and a deep understanding of how a digital object is physically produced.
