3D Printing and Modeling
3D Modeling and Printing Course: From Idea to Prototype
Course Approach
A complete hands-on process: Design → Prepare in Slicer → Print → Evaluate and Iterate.
Student Profile
Teens aged 15 to 18 interested in technology, design, art or engineering. No prior knowledge required.
Skills to Develop
- Accessible 3D modeling with Tinkercad and professional parametric modeling with Fusion 360
- Preparing files with slicing software (Cura or Creality Print)
- Safe operation and calibration of the latest FDM 3D printers (Ender 3 V3 KE)
- Diagnosing, analyzing common failures and troubleshooting printing issues
Class Structure and Formats
Regular Track
4 sessions of 4 hours each, held on 4 consecutive Saturdays (mornings or afternoons).
Intensive Track
5 sessions of 4 hours, Monday through Friday, with a closing day dedicated to the final project showcase.
Methodology
Built around constant hands-on challenges. Students continuously move between the computer lab and the fabrication lab (STEAM Lab) to physically validate their prototypes.
Final Project
Students work in teams to independently design a functional accessory (such as a stand with ergonomic considerations and documented iterations), presenting and justifying their technical decisions to their peers.
