3D-Printed Art
From Filament to Color
Each student receives a 3D-printed figure that works as a three-dimensional canvas: they learn color theory and brush techniques, and turn it into a fully personal piece of art.
Objective
Bring together technology, creativity and artistic expression by personalizing 3D-printed figures. The goal isn’t for every student to produce an identical figure, but for each one to turn the same technological base into a personal creation.
Educational Approach (STEAM / PBL)
Art
Color wheel, primary, secondary and tertiary colors, blending tones, and correct brush use on three-dimensional surfaces.
Technology
An accessible introduction to digital manufacturing: digital model → slicing → 3D printer → filament → physical object.
PBL
A tangible final product, decision-making throughout the process, and a closing presentation where each student explains their creation.
Available Figures
The collection goes beyond animals: each student picks their favorite base from a range of figures and styles, and there’s no need to stick to real-life colors. An elephant can be blue and a donut can have imaginary frosting — what matters is exploration and personal expression.
- Animals: cats, foxes, monkeys, squirrels, ducks, elephants and penguins
- Donuts and other miniature decorative pieces
- New themed figures added as the collection grows
Advanced Level
For students with more experience or stronger brush skills, we offer figures with more detail and complexity, such as busts of popular characters (for example, The Mandalorian). Their higher-relief surfaces make it possible to practice shading, metallic finishes and more advanced tone blending.
Production Spec Sheet
Figures produced by Crafters & Makers Lab using FDM 3D printing in white or light gray PLA, a neutral tone that makes painting easier. Models are chosen for low filament use, reasonable print time, good durability, and details large enough to work with a brush.
Commercial Value Proposition
A flexible activity that fits schools, art academies, education fairs and family workshops. Available as an individual kit, a full experience with the Lab’s support, or an institutional package with a teaching guide for instructors.
